Sunny January Drive

I drove about 90 miles south today for an academic meeting. It was a great day for a drive. Even though it was only 2 degrees outside, it was a cloudless, sunny day, very few cars on the road.

Here are some iPhone pics I took from my steering wheel.

Not a cloud in the sky as I drive south at 8:30am.

You can see how cold it’s been this winter by the ice build-up on the sides of the road.

In this last shot you can see the lake effect clouds hanging over the north country up ahead, as I drive home.

Chicago is my kind of town

Last week I took a VERY quick trip to Chicago last week, really just 24 hours, but I got a couple of cool images while I was there. This is the Roosevelt Fountain in Grant Park.

And this is Cloud Gate in Millennium Park, which I also call “the bean.” I’m sure this is a common nickname, at least among us tourists.

And these are some sailboats anchored in Lake Michigan, near Grant Park. It was a calm afternoon on the water, not really anywhere near as windy as I expected for a fall day in Chicago.

Images of Ireland

It’s hard to take a bad picture in Ireland. Really, almost impossible. You are surrounded by iconic scenery, pastoral landscapes, beauty everywhere. Most of the images you will see in these posts were shot with my Canon T3i and are available for sale at http://500px.com/photolily or http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/photolilyphotography.html.

Our first few days were spent on the Dingle Peninsula – this cottage is just part of the unbelievable country around Ventry and Slea Head.

And then there is the view of the Blasket Islands from the Slea Head Road.

This is a view of the “sleeping giant” or Inishtooskert, one of the Blasket Islands. This particular image was taken with my iPhone, but processed images from my Canon will be uploaded soon.

Future posts will feature images from other areas of Ireland’s west coast.
